Tests & Monitoring

Helping Us Look After Your Health Safely

Regular tests and monitoring are an important part of your healthcare. They help us spot changes early, monitor long-term conditions and make sure your medication remains safe and effective.

Depending on your health and medication, you may be asked to complete checks throughout the year.

What Tests Might I Need?

Depending on your individual needs, we may ask you to have:

  • Blood tests

  • Blood pressure checks

  • Urine tests

  • Kidney function tests

  • Cholesterol checks

  • Diabetes monitoring

  • Height and weight checks

  • Diabetes foot checks

  • Medication monitoring

  • Other tests related to your condition or treatment

Your clinical team will let you know which checks you need and how often they should be completed.

Look Out for Messages From Us

When you are due a test or review, we may contact you by text message, email or telephone.

You may receive:

  • A link to book an appointment

  • A questionnaire to complete

  • A request for a blood or urine test

  • A request for blood pressure or other readings

  • An invitation for a medication or long-term condition review

Please respond to these requests as soon as you can, even if you are feeling well.

Why Is Monitoring Important?

Some medications require regular blood tests, health checks or clinical reviews before we can continue prescribing them safely.

Your results help us check that your medication is working correctly and isn't causing problems that may not have obvious symptoms.

Your Medication May Depend on Your Monitoring

If you do not complete the required tests, monitoring or medication review, we may not have enough up-to-date information to safely continue issuing your usual quantity of medication.

Where clinically appropriate, your prescription may therefore be reduced to a short supply, such as 7 days, until the required tests or review have been completed.

This is for your safety and helps us make sure your medication remains appropriate for you.

Completing your requested tests and reviews promptly will help prevent delays or interruptions to your usual medication supply.

Had Your Tests Somewhere Else?

If you've recently had the requested tests completed at a hospital or another NHS service, please let us know.

If a hospital consultant or department requested your test, scan or procedure, that team is normally responsible for reviewing the results and discussing any necessary follow-up with you.
