Prescription

Prescription Collection

Repeat Prescriptions are not produced over the weekend or on Bank Holidays.

Please allow 72 hours for all prescriptions to be processed, we cannot accept prescription requests over the telephone.

We must receive your repeat prescription request in writing - all options of how to do this are listed below.

Orders place after 11.30am on a Friday will be completed on Monday.

When a doctor wishes you to have regular medication, you will need a Medication Review every 6 months.

Failing to attend your review may cause a delay to your request.

Please understand our cautionary approach on this matter as uncontrolled issues of repeat prescriptions could, under certain circumstances, be potentially dangerous and compromise your health.

Please do not call us to find out if your pharmacy has your prescriptions ready, we can not tell you this information and it backs up the phone lines.

Repeat Prescriptions

You can request repeat prescriptions using any of the following methods:

  • Prescription Box: Place your request in the box located outside the front door at either surgery. Tick the required items on your last prescription slip. If you do not have a request slip, complete a routine slip available at Reception.

  • NHS App: Order prescriptions conveniently through the NHS App.

  • Online Platforms: Use Anima, SystemOnline, or Airmid to order repeat prescriptions.

  • Email: Send your request to scsprescriptions.f81121@nhs.net Include:

    • Your full name.

    • Your date of birth.

    • The name of the medication(s) you require.

    • Your request will be actioned within 72 hours.

Important Information

  • Non-Repeat Medications: If your request includes items not listed on your repeat prescription, these will need to be authorised by our clinical staff. This may result in a delay, and the prescription may not be ready within the usual 72-hour timeframe.

  • Controlled Drugs: Requests for controlled drugs may take up to 5 working days to process.

Pharmacy Collection or Delivery

Your prescription can be sent directly to your chosen pharmacy for collection or delivery. To arrange this:

  • Sign up with your preferred pharmacy.

  • Alternatively, speak to a member of our reception team for assistance.

Processing Times

  • Allow 72 hours (not including weekends and Bank Holidays) for your repeat prescription to be processed.

  • Request your medication approximately 1 week before running out to ensure uninterrupted supply.

Safety and Scrutiny

We carefully review all prescription requests to ensure the safety, risks, and benefits of the medications prescribed. Your understanding and patience during this process are greatly appreciated.

Prescription Charges and Exemptions

Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs).

The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines.

Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.

NHS Prescription charges

  • Single prescription charge: £9.90

  • 3-month Prescription Prepayment Certificate (PPC): £32.05

  • 12-month PPC: £114.50

  • HRT PPC: £19.80

Out of Practice Prescription

There may be occasions when we refuse to issue prescriptions authorised by other doctors or consultants. This in no way questions the authority, integrity or knowledge of other practitioners. A refusal to issue a prescription in these cases follows local authority guidelines.

An example of why we might refuse a prescription is that we feel we do not have the specific expertise within the Practice to carry out safe monitoring of that prescription e.g. certain types of drugs require specialist control and monitoring. We may consider that repeat prescriptions should be issued by the initiating doctor.
