24-Hour Blood Pressure & ECG Monitoring

We offer 24-hour blood pressure (BP) and ECG monitoring to help your clinician understand what is happening over a normal day and night.

You will need to attend the surgery twice — once to have the monitor fitted and again the following day to have it removed.

24-Hour Blood Pressure Monitoring

A 24-hour blood pressure monitor automatically takes your blood pressure at regular intervals throughout the day and night. This gives us a more detailed picture than a single reading taken at the surgery.

What Happens at My Appointment?

At your first appointment, a member of our team will:

  • Fit a blood pressure cuff to your arm

  • Connect it to a small portable monitor

  • Explain how the equipment works

  • Tell you what you need to do while wearing it

The monitor will automatically take readings throughout the next 24 hours.

You should continue with your normal daily activities where possible, but you will need to keep the equipment dry and avoid removing it.

The Following Day

You will need to return to the surgery the following day so we can remove the monitor and download your readings.

Your results will then be sent to a GP for review. We will contact you if any further action, treatment or appointment is needed.

24-Hour ECG Monitoring

A 24-hour ECG records your heart's electrical activity continuously while you go about your normal daily routine.

It can help identify changes in your heart rhythm that may not be detected during a short ECG at the surgery.

What Happens at My Appointment?

At your first appointment:

  • Small sticky electrodes will be placed on your chest

  • These will be connected to a small portable ECG monitor

  • We'll explain how to wear and look after the monitor

  • You'll be asked to keep the equipment on for the full monitoring period

You can usually continue with your normal activities, but you will need to keep the monitor dry.

Returning Your Monitor

You will need to come back to the surgery the following day so the monitor can be removed and the recording downloaded.

Your results will then be sent to a GP for review. If the results show that you need further investigation, treatment or an appointment, we'll contact you to explain the next steps.

Please Remember

Day 1 → Monitor fitted

Wear it for approximately 24 hours

Day 2 → Return to the surgery for removal

Results → Sent to a GP for review

Please make sure you can attend both appointments when booking your monitoring.
