Housebound Patient Care
Supporting Patients at Home
Southend Coastal Surgeries provides medical support for patients who are genuinely housebound and unable to attend the surgery because of their health or mobility.
Where clinically appropriate, our team may arrange a home visit or other support to ensure you receive the care you need.
Requesting a Home Visit
If you are housebound and need medical help, please contact us as early as possible during the working day.
All home visit requests are clinically assessed first. A home visit is not automatically provided because it has been requested.
Our clinical team will decide the most appropriate way to provide your care, which may include telephone advice, treatment, referral or a home visit.
Our Housebound Visiting Area
We can only provide routine home visiting services to patients who live within our designated housebound visiting area.
If you are permanently housebound and live a significant distance from one of our surgeries, we may recommend registering with a GP practice closer to your home.
This is important for continuity and safety of care, particularly if you regularly require home visits, community services or ongoing clinical support.

We Are Not an Emergency Service
Southend Coastal Surgeries is not an emergency service, and our home visiting service cannot provide an emergency response.
If you or someone you care for is seriously ill, has a life-threatening condition or needs immediate medical attention, call 999.
For urgent medical help that is not life-threatening, contact NHS 111.
Please remember
Being unable to arrange transport to the surgery does not necessarily mean that a home visit is required. Home visits are intended for patients whose medical condition prevents them from attending the surgery.
Whenever possible, patients will be asked to attend one of our surgeries, where clinicians have access to the appropriate equipment and facilities to provide safe and effective care.
